| A mountain bike ride followed by a bushwalk brought is into this monitoring point area only 2 kilometres from Darkes Forest. Despite its remoteness the views were superb. The lake shown below wasn't on the route but close by. | |

The route is challenging but worth it. We saw a huge number of animal tracks over the full length including horse tracks, some brave soul had travelled the same route and crossed the O'Hares Creek on horse back. The monitoring location is downstream of Iluka Swamp and the junction of Iluka Creek and O'Hares Creek. This location gives us the combined flow from all the creeks on the upper catchment above the crossing out as far as Maddens Creek. This is a considerable area of the plateau to drain. We discovered that water levels in O'Hares Creek were very low which was very disappointing. These levels support our findings further down the creek below the junction of Stokes Creek and O'Hares Creek and prior to The Basin at Kentlyn. We are now in the last month of winter and have had plenty of rain. One wonders if the loss of water in the Waratah Rivulet over to the north west is caused by lack of water on the plateau. We have no prior knowledge of the water flow from this area but we will gain that knowledge in the future. Tthe ground was sodden with many small creeks crossing our line of travel. Ultimately the total amount of water draining from this area is seen at The Basin, Kentlyn, Campbelltown which we have photographed many times this year. Our findings at The Basin compared with years of river knowledge led us to believe that Georges River is dieing. see - the dieing river |

| Can this really be the total water flow from such a huge catchment area, swamps and creeks? | |

| Stunning, almost non-existant water flow but worth looking at! | |
