Location 4. O'Hares Creek - Georges River photographs 19 July 09

The location is within Georges River National Park administered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Location 4, is the water guage 1 (Topographical Map 1:25 000 Appin 9029-1S GR 006106) located down stream of the junction O'Hares Creek and Stokes Creek.

Water flow / volume

The water flow / volume in O'Hares Creek once again was very disappointing. We are seeing this throughout the length of Georges River and O'Hares Creek.

River monitoring locations

We have now established 7 points to monitor Georges river:

Location 1. The Basin on Georges River at Kentlyn (banner photograph taken during drought early 2009)
Georges River - The Basin

Location 2. The Cause way at Wedderburn Gorge Wedderburn Gorge

Location 3 The Woolwash, junction of Georges River and O'Hares Creek

Location 4. The water guage upstream of location 3 on O'Hares Creek Wedderburn
O'Hare - Wedderburn

Location 5. The water guage upstream of O'Hares Creek / Stokes Creek junction Wedderburn

Location 6. Iluka Swamp in the Dharawal State Recreation Area
Iluka Swamp

Location 7. River crossing downstream of Iluka Creek on O'Hares Creek
O'Hare - Iluka Creek

In effect from The Bushwalkers Basin at Kentlyn we can monitor the flow from almost the whole catchment north west of Appin Rd which leaves 5 kilometres south of Appin Rd near Westcliff Colliery and the Cataract Scout Camp.

To the east we have the Waratah Rivulet whose river bed is already cracked in many places and has lost much of its water. The Waratah Rivulet feeds the Woronora Dam which is part of the Sydney catchment.

Our next step is to access and view the swamps and catchment in the Dharawal State Recreational Area to complete the picture. It would seem to us that BHP Billiton illawarra Coal has almost completed the destruction of the catchment area for Georges River as we knew it.

The mining industry, Federal and NSW Labour governments refuse to acknowledge and accept the massive damage caused by longwall mining to the Macarthur Region of NSW despite the overwhelming information condemning it.
