River monitoring points

This location is near the Waratah Rivulet and feeds into O'Hares Creek.

The location is completely off track and heavy going requiring a map and compass with the GPS used to give us the exaxt location. The GPS accuracy at the time was 4 metres. Close enough to plot our monitoring point. The bush is quite dense surrounding Iluka Swamp creating many diversions from our compass bearing.

We almost gave up on finding water but eventually located it by the dead grass gave way causing Bens boot to slip through. The location was directly over the creek bed indicated on the map: Topographical & Orthophoto Map Appin 9029 - 2N GR050077

Here we can view the swamps and catchment in the Dharawal State Recreational Area to complete the picture. It would seem to us that BHP Billiton illawarra Coal has almost completed the destruction of the catchment area for Georges River as we knew it.
